'Before the Wind; "Sarah" ' by Meredith D. Holt beckihblumer@fuse.net Earth: Cinncinati, Ohio, 1998 In the attic of a worn, yet stately house in a long, park-like neighborhood, was a young girl, painting her heart out. She was of a taller varity, with long brown hair wond up in a frizzy bun, with piercing blue-gray eyes that seemed intent on the shade of purple she was mixing. Her name was Sarah Aleia Cox, and although she was completely wrapped up in her painting, she had a cordless phone under her ear and was talking into it. "Yes, Roseanne. Wow, I didn't know that. So, what are you doing for your Social Studies Project? No, forget it." Sarah was clearly trying to hold back some laughter. One of her two best friends was suggesting totaly off topic and silly projects. As Sara gazed out the small window, she saw a short, mousy girl and dark boy walk up to the door of her house. "Hey, Rosa? Look, I gotta go, some of Travi's friends are here. Yeah, I'll call back. You still on for meeting me and Janet at the Pizza Place? Kay, bye." she beeped the phone off and set it on a box, wipping her painty hands on her dress and running down the steps. She opened the door to her brother's friends, Rosevelt and Michelle. With a sigh of pure annoyance Sarah showed them down stairs to her brother's lab in the basement...... Main Dome Mars Colony: 2247 Aleia D. Marie Holt-Stargate awoke to the cries of the toddler balling from where he was sandwhiched between her and her sister Eleen on the dusty mattress. The other girl wasn't stirring, so Aleia picked the boy up and moved to the other end of the small apartment. She looked out the window to the sleeping lights of mainedome Mars colony. "Hush, Anakin..." the child still wasn't used to being called that. But she shouldn't call him Logan, that would be confusing, he needed to learn to respond to Anakin. "Sar-...Aleia?" Eleen asked. The girl rubbed her eyes and looked around in the dim, shadow strew world. "Yes?" "What's wrong?" "Oh, Anakin was having another nightmare." Aleia stated bluntly. Eleen got up off the floor and took Anakin into her arms, the boy squealed louder and she fairly threw him back to Aleia. "Any food left? I'm hungry." Eleen stated. Aleia wished she had some food, but they couldn't afford more groceries until the end of the week. Two days from now. "Sorry, Elly." she sighed and took a seat on one of the pillows. Eleen loked about to cry as well, but at least Anakin had settled. "Can we really do this, Ally? Can we really make it this way?" the red-head questioned. "Oh, Janet." Aleia sighed, using Eleen's real name. This new world was so hard, so alien. But it was all they had. Suddenly, Aleia D. Marie Holt-Stargate, formerly known as Sarah Aleia Cox, was mad at herself. "It's all my fault." Aleia burst out. "Damnation! I stole our LIVES!" "No, its no ones..." Elly started.. "Yes, damn it! It is! Look at this, Janet Eleen Combs! Logan will never know his mother, or even go by Logan, he'll never remember his brother! It's all my fault." and she began to weep. Elly held out her amrs and together the two friends turned sisters cradled to the small toddler inbetween their still developing bossoms and rocked him, and themselves, back to sleep..... Babylon 5- 2260 Lennier felt his wife stirr and cry out. With gentle hands he held her to him and rocked her gently. She opened tear filled blue-gray eyes on him, and smiled weakly. "It's okay Aleia, it was all a bad dream...." Lennier hushed her. She lifted her lips, with out a word, to kiss him. With each passing moment, the passion grew, hands and tongues moving to explore familular territory. Lennier knew Aleia needed this, needed to replace painful memories. "Lennier?" she asked softly, looking into his passion darkened eyes, "Make love to me." she demanded softly. And he was more then willing to comply...... tell me what you think!
